Coastal Alabama & Northern Gulf Coast Fishing Seasons and Weather

Fall
The fall is without a doubt the best time of year to target redfish on fly rods. The water gets extremely clear and the fish get up shallow. This is the fishing season when the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta and the flats around the causeway are on fire. If you want to see tailing redfish, come fishing with me in the fall. We are often able to spot schools of up to 10 or 15 tailing redfish from far off and quietly pole the boat into casting distance. We say that it is more like hunting than fishing.

Winter

While there are still a few fly fishing opportunities in Alabama in the winter, this is the season that I really push the Biloxi Marsh trips. Even on the coldest days in January and February we are able to see tailing black drum and large schools of bull reds.

Spring/Summer
There are so many options for trips in the spring and summer. The Biloxi Marsh and the flats in the Mississippi Sound are full of slot redfish when the water is clear. The wade fishing out of Dauphin Island for speckled trout gets really good in the spring and summer. The tripletail show up in the Bay and the Sound and the tarpon show up off the beaches in the summer.
